Artisan: Shyam Badan Shrestha

Born in 1948, Shyam Badan Shrestha was initially a primary school teacher who started producing handmade products from knot crafts in 1984. Later on she began producing saw dust dolls in 1995. It was during this time she began research on fibers of natural plants in year the 2000, she started creating products like bamboo baskets and fiber grass mats. Right now, she is producing baskets and mats from 12 different kinds of fiber plants found in Nepal. She weaves using traditional designs of Kathmandu valley.
